HENDERSONVILLE — A Hendersonville police officer will not face charges after she shot and killed a suspect who had stabbed her partner.

The Times-News of Hendersonville reported that District Attorney Greg Newman has cleared Officer Jennifer Drake of any wrongdoing in the shooting earlier this month.

Newman issued a statement Tuesday saying Drake’s actions were legally justified in shooting to protect Sgt. Kenny Hipps, as well as herself.

Investigators say 46-year-old Adrian Eugene King of Hendersonville ambushed Hipps, stabbing him twice after Hipps and Drake responded to a call at King’s apartment on July 13.

Newman said Hipps was attacked as soon as he entered the apartment and tried to stun the suspect but was unable to do so.
