CARY — Former state auditor candidate Debra Goldman has resigned from the Wake County Board of Education because she is moving away from the area.

Goldman abruptly left the board Friday, sending an email saying she is taking a job with a nonprofit. Voting records show she has moved her official residence from Cary to Wilkes County.

Goldman is the second Republican to leave the Wake County board in recent months. Chris Malone was elected to the North Carolina House
