CHARLOTTE — Funeral services have been held for Frank Turner, former chief of communications for The Associated Press in North Carolina, and for his wife, who died nine hours earlier.

Jonathan Holland of Gordon Funeral Service & Crematory said Frank Turner died Friday at a Marshville nursing home. Holland said Eleanor Turner died nine hours before her husband at a Monroe nursing home. The couple had been born 26 days apart in July 1926. Their funeral was Monday.

Frank Turner joined the AP in 1943. He resigned in 1944 and was re-hired in March 1947 after serving in the Navy. He retired in 1991.

Linda Purser said her parents would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Dec. 24.

Also among the survivors are a son, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
