DURHAM — A pre-Civil War plantation in Durham will be the setting of a film that a Raleigh production company plans to release next spring to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the war’s end.
The Herald-Sun of Durham reported Uptone Pictures will begin filming “Union Bound” Thursday at Historic Stagville. The script is based on the unpublished diary of Joseph Hoover, a Union soldier who escaped prison with the help of slaves.
Stagville is one of the largest surviving pre-Civil War plantations.
Michael Davis of Uptone Pictures is producing “Union Bound.” Harvey Lowry will direct the film. His credits include makeup effects on “The Passion of the Christ” and “A Beautiful Mind.” Among the actors is Sean Stone, son of director Oliver Stone.
