CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a pair of shooting deaths and have a person of interest in one of the cases.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting on the city’s southwest side early Saturday morning. Police spokeswoman Jessica Yellin said 36-year-old Gary Lane Jr. was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Yellin said a person has been detained for questioning.

The Charlotte Observer reports officer responded to another call on the north side of the city and found a man dead of a gunshot wound. His identity was withheld pending notification of family members.

Police said the victim and suspects had an altercation Friday evening. They said the suspects then drove to where the victim was staying to continue the argument.
