CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a Charlotte man in connection with the death of his 2-year-old son.

Police said 29-year-old Travis Jamell Pemberton is charged with murder and felony child abuse.

A statement from police said officers responded to a call on Feb. 9 about an unresponsive infant. Emergency personnel transported Jackobie Morgan to Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives determined that the infant was physically assaulted, which led to his death.

On Monday, Pemberton went to police headquarters, where authorities said he was interviewed by detectives and confessed to assaulting his son.

Pemberton was in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Monday night. There was no additional information on his status.
