CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives have charged a captain with the Charlotte Fire Department in connection with the theft of prescription narcotics while he was on duty.
A statement from police said 49-year-old Charlie David Morris Jr. is charged with misdemeanor larceny. He turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
The statement said the Charlotte Fire Department was assisting emergency personnel at a residence north of uptown Charlotte on Tuesday. Family members called to say the patient was missing some prescription pills, and police said seven Dilaudid pills were taken from the home.
Fire department Chief Jon Hannan said responders underwent drug tests and polygraph exams. Hannan said Morris confessed to the theft and submitted his resignation on Thursday.
Jail records didn’t indicate Morris’ status on Friday afternoon.
