RALEIGH — Two more Republicans say they’re running for Congress. One is seeking to succeed retiring GOP Rep. Howard Coble and the other to challenge current Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers.
Greensboro City Council member Zack Matheny is joining at least four other Republicans who’ve announced they want to represent the 6th Congressional District after Coble retires next year. Matheny is in his fourth council term and says he wants to focus on bringing jobs to the district.
Frank Roche of Cary will make another try for Congress — this time seeking to defeat Ellmers in the 2nd Congressional District. Roche says he’s running in part due to what he calls Ellmers’ moderate voting record. Roche previously ran unsuccessfully for the 4th District seat in 2010 and for state treasurer in 2012.
