A Nashville man was charged Friday with the murder of his father.
Lewis Shamir Richardson Jr., 31, of 211 Vernon St. is being held without bond in the Nash County jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of his 67-year-old father, Lewis Richardson.
Nashville Police Chief Thomas Bashore said officers responded to a report of an injured man at the Richardsons’ Vernon Street house on Aug. 2. Bashore said officers found the elder Richardson on the floor of the house with severe injuries.
Police located Lewis Richardson Jr. nearby, Bashore said. He was charged with assault inflicting serious injury and jailed under a $50,000 secured bond.
Lewis Richardson was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he was treated for lacerations to the head, collapsed lungs and several broken ribs and placed in the intensive care unit, Bashore said.
The elder Richardson died from his injuries Friday, and authorities charged Lewis Richardson Jr. with first degree murder, Bashore said. His first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 3.
