Donald Morris has decided to resign as mayor of Tarboro, effective today, Town Manager M. Alan Thornton said.

Morris could not immediately be reached for comment. He wrote a letter to Town Council members to inform them of his resignation.

“It has been my pleasure to serve the town I love for these many years,” Morris wrote in the letter.

The letter did not give a reason for the resignation.

Morris announced in May that he would not seek re-election in November, but Thornton said Morris’ decision to resign this week came as a surprise.

No reason for resigning. I wonder what's up with that? Many times when one resign it gives the person that is appointed the edge during election time.
