A Middlesex town employee was arrested Friday for embezzlement.

Police arrested Shelly Woodruff, the town’s administrative assistant, on Friday afternoon, Middlesex Police Chief Dennis Murray said. Murray declined to comment further about the case, including how much money allegedly was embezzled, because he said the case still is under investigation.

The date of the alleged offense was between Feb. 28 and May 27, a representative from the magistrates’ office said.

Middlesex Mayor Luther “LuHarvey” Lewis Jr. also declined to comment about the matter because it is an ongoing investigation. Woodruff was not working Monday, Lewis said.
