A Rocky Mount man was killed Monday after the car he was driving the wrong way on U.S. 64 collided head-on with another vehicle.
N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper B.K. Jones said authorities began receiving calls about a blue Ford Escort traveling east in the westbound lanes around 2 p.m. after Glenn Lancaster allegedly got on U.S. 64 from N.C. 58.
After travelling about two miles, Lancaster, collided with a white Nissan van driven by Winn Rash, 65. The force of the crash trapped Rash of Raleigh in the vehicle and both men were taken to Nash General Hospital. Lancaster, 71, died at the hospital while Rash was treated for minor injuries.
Authorities said a medical condition likely contributed to Lancaster driving the wrong direction on the highway.
