A child is safe after being accidently locked in a vehicle for a short time, officials said.
Rocky Mount police responded to an emergency call Monday afternoon that a 15-month-old child was locked in a vehicle at McDonald’s on the 3000 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard. As the child was being strapped into a car seat, the driver sat the keys down on the seat but closed the locked door before retrieving the keys, Capt. Laura Fahnestock said.
No one was injured, and no criminal charges will be filed.
A 14-year-old boy is in critical, but stable, condition after being hit by a car Sunday while riding his bicycle, officer Wayne Harrell said. The boy was crossing Peachtree Street, heading toward Battle Park, when a vehicle driven by Jennifer Tillery of Rocky Mount struck him. The boy was riding bikes with a group of friends around 5 p.m. He suffered head trauma and was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Harrell said the case still is being investigated.
Police also are investigating a Sunday break-in at Edwards Middle School. An unknown suspect broke into the school and ransacked a classroom and trailer, police said. It is undetermined if anything was taken.
