The N.C. Highway Patrol issued a statement Tuesday indicating it will increase patrols during Labor Day weekend, targeting speeding or aggressive drivers.
“Don’t try to cut a few minutes off your travel time by speeding or driving aggressively,” said Lt. Colonel M.W. Gilchrist, deputy commander of the N.C. Highway Patrol. “It’s just not worth it.”
According to the release, aggressive drives account for the majority of crashes on state roadways. Troopers responded to 1,026 crashes last Labor Day weekend, which resulted in 456 injuries and seven deaths.
“These high visibility patrols are designed to prevent crashes and ensure voluntary compliance with motor vehicle laws,” the release stated.
