A Rocky Mount man died Monday from gunshot wounds he suffered earlier this month and police have no description of the gunman.
Omar Shariff Foster, 35, was shot on Jan. 5 while near a house on the 300 block of North Howell Street. The victim was taken to Nash General Hospital and transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he died Monday. An autopsy will be performed.
According to police reports, the gunman fired multiple gunshots, wounding Foster and damaging several homes and a vehicle. No description of the shooter was released at the time of the shooting, but detectives continue to investigate the case.
“We just want to encourage the community to get involved,” Rocky Mount police Cpl. Mike Lewis said. “If there is information out there, we want people to come forward with it so we can bring this suspect to justice.”
The death is the first homicide in Rocky Mount of 2014.
