Garland Barnes was one of about 30 people who brought an unwanted gun to the Rocky Mount Police Department on Tuesday and left with some much needed cash.

gun buy back
What a waste of time and money. Do you at the PD think a crook will turn in his guns? You will only get a bunch of old guns from old ladies that may not even work. Many other towns have tried this and it never works. The anti-gun Telegram pumps up the story because it makes some dumb people feel good. Guns in the hands of private citizens is not a problem, obama is the problem!
prevents stolen guns
I don't think anyone is under the impression that actual criminals sold guns yesterday. The idea is that any gun sold back yesterday is one that can not be stolen during a home invasion and thus end up in the hands of a criminal. Also, if these individuals have no use for their firearms, they could possibly end up selling them to a person that may use the weapon illegally.
Clarification please
So do I understand correctly that in order to prevent someone else from committing a crime we must deny things perfectly legal to everyone? This is not an acceptable premise. If that's the case, we must deny the ownership of cash to all since it could be stolen and used to buy drugs. We must deny the ownership of cars since they might be stolen and used in the commission of a crime. We must prohibit crowbars since they might fall into the wrong hands and be used to break in to a house. That thought process at best is illogical and at worst extremely dangerous. Pretty soon we will be denied the right to think since someone might use their brain to think up some crime to commit. As always this program is a feel-good do-nothing program that wastes tax dollars.
Will someone please
Will someone please explain how this makes the streets safer? Are they saying that the thugs and hoodlums turned their guns in? Was anyone who sold a gun a suspect in a crime? Was anyone who sold a gun apt to use that gun in the commission of a crime? Inquiring minds want to know.
