No one was inside a Sharpsburg home when a Sunday morning fire damaged the residence.

Sharpsburg Assistant Fire Chief Davin Best said crews from Sharpsburg, West Mount and Toisnot fire departments responded around 11:30 a.m. to a residential fire on the 8200 block of Town Creek Road.

“A neighbor saw the smoke and called 911,” Best said.

“When we got there, there was heavy smoke showing from the roof area and the front door area of the home.”

The fire mostly was contained to the kitchen area. It took crews about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.

Best estimated the damage at more than $30,000, including heat and smoke damage to the rest of the home.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the couple who lived in the home with temporary housing and supplies. No one was injured in the incident.

Best said the Wilson County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire.

The cause is undetermined.
