The family of a fallen Sharpsburg police chief are inviting the community to help remember the late officer’s life.

Willard Wayne Hathaway was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call in 1997. Hathaway’s niece, Carie Jones, said her family and others will gather Friday night at Mill Branch Cemetery to release balloons in his honor.

The balloons will be released at 6:01 p.m. to commemorate what would have been Hathaway’s 64th birthday.

Happy 64th Birthday Wayne!!

Happy 64th Birthday Wayne!! Seems just like yesterday that we were hanging out at the Barn laughing and having a good ole time....seems just like yesterday when I heard the news! Miss you and think of you and speak of you often! Cindy Smith

"Responding to a domestic violence call" Is that right?
