Job seekers and employers are invited to participate in a job fair Thursday morning at Nash Community College.

The college is working with U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan’s office to offer the event, called the “Back to Work Job Fair.”

As of Friday afternoon, 57 employers were scheduled to participate, said Michael Coleman, who is a counselor and the Career and Job Placement coordinator at NCC. He said most of the employers who have signed up to participate said they have one or more job positions available.

“I’m very excited that we are having the employer participation that we are,” Coleman said. “It just shows that our city does have positions and does have employment despite the economic environment. That is certainly encouraging.”

Coleman said he also is excited about the diversity of the employers and fields that will be represented.

Some of the employers are looking for people with experience or training and others have entry-level positions, Coleman said.

Participating employers include Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant, PNC Bank, BB&T, U.S. Cellular, Barton College and Lowe’s Home Improvement.

Coleman encouraged people who attend to wear business attire and bring copies of their resume to hand out.

The job fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday in the Business and Industry Center at Nash Community College.

The college is inviting alumni to attend the event.

There will be a VIP section where NCC alumni can talk to employers and college students who are preparing to graduate.

Hagan will not be able to attend the job fair, but she is planning to send some of her constituent services representatives, Coleman said.

In a press release about the event, Hagan said she hopes the job fair will help connect job seekers with jobs that are available.

“Though we see some hopeful signs, we cannot stop efforts to get North Carolinians back to work in every community across the state,” Hagan said in the news release.

Hagan also made a video that event organizers plan to show at the event, Coleman said.
