Smith-Ingram leads Jenkins In N.C. Senate race

A school board member from Northampton County has gotten out to a strong lead on the longest serving state senator in early results.

With 31 of 95 precincts reported, Gaston resident and Northampton school board member Erica Smith-Ingram is leading Tarboro resident Clark Jenkins in the N.C. Senate District 3 race. Jenkins has served six terms in the Senate.

There is no Republican challenger for the seat.

Smith-Ingram had 3,263 votes compared to Jenkins 1,999 votes. Bertie County minister Alan Mizelle had 596 votes.

Mr. Willingham and Mr. Holderness seem to be very humble, knowledgeable men that are willing to listen carefully to the issues and make a value based decision. It is going to be a tough run off.
