CRAMERON — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says his campaign is changing and he is campaigning in North Carolina as a “citizen.”
But Gingrich would not elaborate on that explanation during an address to a civic club at a Charlotte suburb on Wednesday morning.
While Gingrich would not say directly if he is suspending his campaign, he did say he expects GOP front-runner Mitt Romney to be the party’s nominee.
Gingrich said unity will be the key to defeating president Obama in the November election.
The former U.S. House speaker says he will continue talking about the kinds of issues that will help Republicans beat Obama. And Gingrich said he will take those issues to the GOP national convention in Tampa, Fla., again without explaining his status as a candidate.
