A Rocky Mount man is in jail for allegedly shooting a passenger in his car during an argument with the man early Sunday morning.
Police said 64-year-old Phillip Edwards was driving Michael Bryant, 49, to the 900 block of New Street around midnight when the two men got into an argument. While driving, Edwards allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired a shot into Bryant’s left thigh.
Police said Edwards drove Bryant around the city for about 30 minutes after the shooting before authorities were called.
Bryant was treated at Nash General Hospital and released. Edwards was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and taken to Nash County jail, where he was being held under a $20,000 secured bond.
