Authorities are investigating a Friday morning tractor-trailer fire that closed travel lanes for a few hours.
N.C. Highway Patrol officials said crews responded around 8:40 a.m. to a report of a tractor-trailer that had caught fire around mile marker 144 on Interstate 95 south. Carlos Cabrera, who drives for Florida Beauty Express in Miami, told authorities he was transporting a shipment of goods from New Jersey to Florida when he smelled smoke and saw flames on his vehicle.
Cabrera reportedly pulled to the side of the road and attempted to extinguish the fire, but was unsuccessful and called authorities. The cab of the truck was destroyed and part of the trailer was burned, officials said. No one was injured during the incident.
Both southbound lanes were shut down for about an hour and one lane was closed for about two hours while crews were at the scene.
