With downtown renovations, more doors open

“It’s an area where businesses thrived in the mid-1990s. We’re trying to bring that back to life. We’re trying to get downtown back. It is a part of history.”

worth the effort

downtown revitalization is worth the effort. considering how much many industries could put a stress on the local water supply, maybe rocky mount should work harder to make rocky mount more of a local and outside tourist draw. for instance, build upon what's already opening and soon to be in downtown rocky mount... restaurant, music venue... smokehouse.. entice a few more restaurants/music establishments into the downtown area and it can work. the area has a rich history of jazz and blues musicians. this has been done in other cities such as Nashville, tenn., tampa, fla, and others.. a music/restaurant district. rather than just writing off downtown rocky mount, it needs to continue to be redefined as to what it will be. add a couple more restaurant/music venues and have the city help in marketing the area.. it can work. will it be safe? sure. just take a little time to see how tampa florida and Nashville Tennessee has done it for their restaurant /music districts in downtown areas.. it can and should be done in rocky mount.
