A 12-year-old boy was shot accidentally during a domestic dispute between his parents, authorities said.

Delaney Drake, who Nash County Lt. Pat Joyner said was thought to be shot in the throat, has been treated and released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

"During a domestic dispute, the boy's parents were arguing, and the mother went and got a gun, threatening to kill herself for attention," Joyner said.

The father, Bobby Drake, took the gun from his wife, Bonaga Drake, to prove that it wasn't loaded, Joyner said. Bobby Drake shot at the wall and a bullet went through the wall, hitting their son.

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday at the family's home on West Castalia Road in Nashville. Neither parent was charged with the shooting because it was accidental, but Bobby Drake faces several charges, including possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, violation of domestic violence protective order by possession of a firearm, violation of domestic violence protective order and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
