Letter: Tap home turf for more oil

It seems as though the cost of fuel dominates every conversation these days. I have a few issues with what I've been hearing.

First, we hear of proposals to fine the oil companies for making record profits. Quick economics lesson folks; When the demand goes up and supply goes down, prices rise.

Punishing capitalism is no solution. It is this very system that has allowed our nation to be so prosperous.

Second, more attention is given to discussions on either alternative energy or begging for more oil from overseas suppliers than actually dealing with the immediate problem.

Alternative energy is a necessary long-term venture. But today, we drive vehicles powered by gasoline and diesel fuel! We will continue to do so for several years.

The demand will not fall. Our dollar will definitely continue to buy less. So, why not increase our supply of oil and natural gas by tapping the resources from own backyard?

Because environmental groups have Congress henpecked! Almost every coastline is off limits due to legislation passed by our elected officials who seem to obey environmentalists' bidding. (A study on who funds those environmentalists groups would amaze you.)

We have enough oil here in the United States to cut the prices at the pump in half. Stop putting up with it, people!

Write your elected officials. Tell them you're livid, going broke, and swear to vote them out unless they get off their hind parts, grow a spine, and serve their constituents' interests as promised!

Here is a link to find your representatives. https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml

Don't just complain to each other. Tell someone who can do something!
