I'd like for you to join me in voting "yes" on Tuesday!
Our senior citizens stand to benefit greatly. Since everybody pays sales tax, not just property owners, it is a fairer choice. And this sales tax will not be charged on groceries either.
Best of all, folks visiting from outside Nash County (staying in hotels, buying dinner, shopping at the mall) will be helping fund our much-needed construction.
While most of the tax will be used for education (as it should), 10 percent of the sales tax will be used to fund public facility needs, such as renovations at the Nash County Senior Center.
I participate regularly in the Senior Center activities and serve on several committees. More than 120 individuals visit the center each day to enjoy computer training, exercise, quilting and even dancing.
Demand has certainly exceeded capacity in the past six years that the senior center has been open. By adding just a penny to $4 on some purchased goods, we can help keep our property tax from increasing for these construction needs – while at the same time going ahead with what we know needs to be done.
So, please join me in voting for the sales tax on May 6. It's what is good for Nash County.
