I was privileged to participate and work at the first annual ENCDV Homeless Veterans Golf Benefit at Northgreen Country Club on Wednesday, April 23.
It made me proud to turn into the parking lot of Northgreen and see the huge American flag flying high in the sky thanks to Edwards Crane.
Thanks to Lynn and Robin Hughes, veterans themselves who felt the need to help veterans less fortunate; Betty and Mike Robinson, Betty is the one who contacted the celebrities who attended and got the items for the silent auction; Ed and Marlene Holloman and Wayne Holloman for the use of the Country Club; Raymond Wood who cooked the barbecued chicken and fixings for the plates that were sold; my friends and the new friends I met while fixing plates and to all the golf teams that played; and to WHIG-TV.
It was a beautiful day and everyone had fun. For those of you who didn't attend, you missed a treat. The Marine Corps Band was a group of very talented young men and women who enjoy playing music and serving our country. They played a variety of songs and were really great. I look forward to seeing and hearing them next year.
This was the first one of many benefits that we hope to have. This is a chance for all civic groups and many other organizations to get involved and support this worthy cause. These brave men and women have served our country to allow us to live in freedom and it's time we help them. It's not too late to make a donation. A lot of money needs to be raised and your donations will be appreciated.
Hope to see you there next year!
