Letter: Memory Walk surpasses goal

Saturday, October 27, 2007

The Luncheon Pilot Club of Rocky Mount wishes to thank the Rocky Mount community once again for your tremendous support of the second annual Alzheimer's Memory Walk, held on Oct. 6, at Nash Community College.

The 2007 Nash-Rocky Mount Alzheimer's Memory Walk was an outstanding accomplishment for our club, as well as for our community. Because of the support from our sponsors, team captains and individual walkers, we exceeded our goal of $30,000. To date, we have raised more than $33,000 and the money is still coming in!

Money raised by your hard work will support families and Alzheimer's patients during some of the most difficult days they may face.

This year's ceremonies opened with the National Anthem performed by Allison Sykes. We were privileged to have Kay Watson as our 2007 honorary chairwoman. Kay shared a personal message from the heart with walkers about her dedication to this cause and how important it is for people to get involved at the ground-roots level.

Top individual, corporate, noncorporate and top health care fundraising teams were recognized the day of the Memory Walk. The Top Noncorporate Team Award went to the Joyner Family; the Top Corporate Team Award went to Creative Memories; the Top Health Care Team Award went to Nash Grove Manor; and the Top Individual Award went to Donna Wheeler. We extend a special thanks to all teams and individual walkers for your enthusiasm and commitment to raising money and interest in the Memory Walk.

Additionally, we sincerely appreciate each of our corporate sponsors and all you did to make the second annual Memory Walk such a success for the Nash-Rocky Mount area. We also express our gratitude to Nash Community College for both hosting our event and for being one of our sponsors.

Funds raised in this year's Memory Walk will support families who are dealing with Alzheimer's in the Nash County area and extend to them the many benefits offered by the Eastern N.C. Alzheimer's Association. These benefits include free information packets, seminars, training programs, toll-free HELP line, help with support groups for Alzheimer's families, counseling, etc.

On behalf of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Rocky Mount and all those who are dealing with Alzheimer's or have lost a loved one to this dreaded disease, we thank you! We look forward to working with each of you again next year!
