Nurses in the post-anesthesia care unit at Nash Health Care recently provided Marines in Afghanistan with a taste of home.
Care packages have long been a favorite of soldiers serving overseas. Some of the most requested items were hard candy, nabs, trail mix, beef jerky and socks – things that many Americans take for granted. Even something as simple as handwritten letters are appreciated.
Care packages and letters are often the only link between soldiers and loved ones back home.
“I think it’s a wonderful idea. We can’t do enough for our soldiers, they are doing everything they can for us,” Kathy Wilson RN said.
Army Specialist Andrew Everett, writing home to his mother, said “We received all the letters and care packages. Everyone was so excited to get something, especially the soldiers that don’t get much mail. They were even more excited when they saw all the goodies in the boxes. The care packages and letters really boosted morale of the soldiers.”
Everett, a Nashville resident, is assigned to the N.C. National Guard 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team in Iraq.
