The carrier annex in Rocky Mount honored its first two new members of the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club for 2010. City letter carriers Tim Balkcum and C. Wayne Calhoun, both residents of Rocky Mount, were recognized last week for their efforts in driving 30 years each without a preventable motor vehicle accident.
This is the highest achievement presented for professional drivers in America.
“These two men are more than deserving of these awards,” said Julius Jones, acting Post Office operations manager for Area 1. “Not only are they models of safe driving, but they are also dependable, productive and of integrity and high character. I wish I could clone them for all of our Post Offices.”
An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation – 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.

I am related to a clerk @ the Main Post Office. The clerks work very hard under the conditions presented to them. Thanks to all the window clerks for the good job that you do.

Clerks and carriers have different jobs. The award is for not having a preventable accident. The award is not for being the best mailman. There are lots of wonderful carriers in the United States.
