The Down East men’s 70+ basketball team, the Hasbeens, won the silver medal in the N.C. Senior Games Basketball Tournament held Oct. 23-25 at East Carolina University.

Winning three of their four games in pool play, they eliminated the Charlotte Long Shots in the semifinal game only to lose the Wake County 56’ers in the championship game. Team members are Billy Luther, 73, Danny Sewell, 71, and captain Reginald Moss, 73. The Hasbeens were the only team of the five in the 70+ age group playing with only three on their roster.

“We are always looking for more players for our basketball teams in all age groups, both men and women,” Moss said. “We know that in the five counties – Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson – there are folks who have played in the past and would enjoy getting on the court again. We’re also looking for softball players. We want to be more competitive in the team sports.”
