The Rocky Mount Debu-ette Club recently kicked off its 2009-10 year with a mother-daughter tea for the freshman class at Englewood United Methodist Church.
The incoming freshman class consists of 60 girls and seven adult advisors. The advisors will devote the next four years to mentoring the girls through community service projects and helping them become leaders in civic and social events.
This year, 193 Debu-ettes in the ninth through 12th grades will volunteer with numerous area organizations, including the American Heart Association, Bassett Center, My Sister’s House, Pregnancy Care Center and Salvation Army. Debu-ettes also will work to serve other organizations and school festivals within the Rocky Mount area as they seek to complete required and extra service hours.
