Community takes on crime

Residents of Ford’s Colony gathered recently for a Neighborhood Watch Social.

The event was a typical social gathering for the residents, but it also was an event to educate the neighborhood about the recently organized Neighborhood Watch program. Close to 50 residents attended a pot-luck social at the lakeside park area near the traditional town gazebo at Ford’s Colony. Assisting in the effort were members of the Rocky Mount Police Department and the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Department.

Law enforcement officers discussed actions residents should take to protect themselves from crime and be a united community against crime. A question and answer session followed with residents and law enforcement officers exchanging ideas on crime prevention and enforcement within the community and county.

Ford’s Colony at Rocky Mount is the latest community in the city to adopt a Neighborhood Watch program, which seems to be gaining popularity among neighborhoods with families and individuals who want to feel safe walking their streets.
