Rocky Mount officials are warning city utility customers of a scam that has been happening recently.
According to a press release, customers have reported getting calls from third parties requesting immediate payment to avoid disconnection of utility services.
“Please be reminded that payments before a disconnection occurs should never be made by wiring money,” the release states.
The Customer Service Office handles all bill payments with staff at an office at City Hall, online at www.rockymountnc.gov or by phone at 1-866-288-7608.
Customers who receive phone calls from an outside company requesting money before a disconnection should call Customer Service at 972-1250 or the police department at 972-1411.
