An unidentified boy was injured Thursday when the car he was riding in was hit by a train.
Authorities responded around 4 p.m. to a report of a Saturn Aura hit by a CSX freight train at private road crossing at Glenview Lane parallel to U.S. 64 alternate south of Tarboro.
A woman and her son were in the vehicle when it was hit by the train and spun around to rest backwards next to the tracks.
Conetoe volunteer firefighters responded to assist the couple then the boy was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where his condition is unknown.
N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Edgecombe County sheriff’s deputies also responded to the wreck. Check back with the Rocky Mount Telegram as more information becomes available.
