The Nash County Board of Commissioners will decide whether to approve several construction contract items related to a new Emergency Medical Services Building on Tuesday at its monthly meeting.

The Nash EMS building is part of the county’s capital improvement plan, which also includes a storage building, a new Rocky Mount High School and a field house at Southern Nash High School. Talks of a new EMS building have been ongoing since the department consolidated all of its operations in 2006.

Nash EMS officials said the new facility would have larger meeting and training spaces for staff; and extra 911 call centers and cargo bays for emergency vehicles. Contractors could break ground as early as this month and could complete construction by May.

The commissioners have three items to approve to move forward on the project: a ground lease between Nash Hospitals Inc. and Nash County for a 2.2 acre parcel on the hospital property for the new EMS building; a $1.28 million contract to Calvin Davenport Inc to construct the EMS facility; and amend the capital project ordinance adopted by the board to reflect the actual construction and project related costs for the EMS building.

In Edgecombe County, the Board of Commissioners will have a public hearing Tuesday to secure a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, to renovate two county-owned buildings located in downtown Tarboro.
