The skeletal remains found in April belong to a woman who went missing in 2001, authorities said today.

The jaw bone of Lateshia McNair was found April 20 by a man raking pine straw in the woods off of Browntown Road in Battleboro, Nash County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Joyner said.

"The bones were collected by a team from Pitt (County) Memorial Hospital and the lower jaw bone was located," Joyner said. "And through the jaw bone they identified her as Lateshia McNair."

In 2001, McNair's skull was found in a graveyard off the same road.

The Rocky Mount Police Department is investigating McNair's death.
