Nash County Commissioner Lou Richardson defeated challenger Jim Harris for the District 1 seat in the county's only contested commissioners race in the May primary; both candidates are registered Democrats.
Richardson received 1,953 votes (70.43 percent), compared to the 820 votes (29.57 percent) received by Harris.
Richardson, who has served on the board for more than 12 years, said: "I am thankful for my supporters for supporting me and believing in what we do together."
No Republicans filed for the seat.
