Rocky Mount police hope a picture from a video surveillance camera will lead them to a robber.
On July 14, a man robbed the Eckerd drugstore on Raleigh Road, and his image was captured on film as he entered the store.
The suspect robbed the store at gunpoint and fled with cash from the drawer. No on was hurt in the robbery.
He is described as a tall black man in his late 20s, with a medium build and medium complexion.
"Somebody who knows him from the neighborhood might recognize him," Rocky Mount police Detective Mike Lewis said.
Anyone with information about the holdup can call the Twin County Crime Stoppers at 977-1111.
Embezzlement
Rocky Mount police recently charged a Battleboro Volunteer Fire Department employee with embezzling more than $43,000.
Delores Nelms Wiggins, 39, of Old Battleboro Road is accused of stealing the money over a five-year period.
Wiggins worked with the agency since 1997 but began keeping the books in 2002, police said. That's when the embezzling started, police charge.
A recent audit picked up on the missing money, police said.
Sex crimes
A Pinetops man already charged with having sex with a teenage girl was charged with three more counts of statutory rape earlier this month in Edgecombe County.
Pernell Nathanial Battle, 44, was arrested in April, following a five-month investigation into allegations that he had sex with a 15-year-old girl, Edgecombe County Sheriff James Knight said. He was charged with one count of statutory rape and jailed under a $25,000 bond.
The Telegram does not publish sexual assault victims' names.
Earlier this month, an Edgecombe County grand jury indicted Battle on three additional counts of statutory rape and three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. After making bond for his original charge, he was jailed again – this time, under a $50,000 bond.
The new charges relate to the same victim, Knight said.
Battle spent time in prison in the early 1990s for writing worthless checks.
