Rocky Mount police said Monday an arrest has been made in the Jan. 3 shooting of a Marigold Street man.
George Lee Perry, 32, of East Highland Avenue has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and first-degree kidnapping in the case, Sgt. Carl Revis said.
Perry is being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center, Revis said. Perry's bond was not available from the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Department.
"(Perry) turned himself in to the (Rocky Mount) police department about 3:30 p.m. Monday," Revis said. "We are still looking for a second suspect in the shooting."
The victim, Katrell Utron White, 20, of Marigold Street survived an attack Wednesday after being shot and dumped in the woods off Tanner Road, authorities said.
White dragged himself more than 10 yards to the roadway before passers-by spotted him and went for help, Rocky Mount police Sgt. Mark Rosenfield said in an initial police report about the shooting.
White, who was apparently shot in the leg, arm and head with a shotgun, was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville for treatment.
White was confronted by two men about 1 a.m. Wednesday on Woodland Avenue, where he was shot, Rosenfield said. The suspects put White into the trunk of a car and drove him to Tanner Road and dumped him several yards off the street.
"He made his way back to the roadway," Rosenfield said. "An officer was flagged down by citizens on Atlantic Avenue who said they had found a man bleeding. They escorted the officer back to the 1800 block of Tanner Road and found the victim."
A Pitt County Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said Monday the hospital has no information on White.
