A longtime Rocky Mount church organist will offer a free recital this month to mark a quarter-century service to his congregation.

Mark Gansor, the organist for Lakeside Baptist Church, will perform selections of his favorite organ works at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in the church’s sanctuary, a release says. A reception honoring Gansor will follow.

“He has been the organist at Lakeside since 1989 and enhances congregational life through his participation, artistic gifts and worship planning,” the release says.

A native of Pittsburgh, Gansor earned a bachelor’s of music from Duquesne University there, studying under renowned organist Ann Labounsky. He also earned a master’s of music from East Carolina University and studied in the doctoral program at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

In addition to music, Gansor is a self-taught artist who has painted murals and decorative works across the state.

Lakeside Baptist Church is at 1501 Sunset Ave. Its senior minister is Dr. Jody C. Wright.
