East End Missionary Baptist Church has presented an Edgecombe Community College freshman the second grant from the congregation’s scholarship foundation.
Walter Sherrod Johnson, a 2011 graduate from Nash Central High School, was awarded the $500 scholarship during the church’s Youth Explosion service Jan. 1. He is the son of Walter Johnson and Gwendolyn Knight-Johnson.
Johnson is enrolled in the College Transfer Program at the community college. His goal is to earn an associate’s degree there, then transfer to East Carolina University to major in business administration.
The East End Missionary Baptist Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to students of Nash-Rocky Mount Public and Edgecombe County Public school systems. Created in 2009, it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group led by a volunteer board of directors.
