Local authorities are investigating two reports of injured animals that were reported within a few minutes of each other on Sunday night.
The first incident happened when an unknown person dropped off an injured dog at the Rocky Mount fire station on the 800 block of South Grace Street. Firefighters reported the dog had an injured left leg but the people left before officials could get any information about what happened. The dog was turned over to animal control.
A few minutes later, a concerned citizen called police after finding a kitten with an unspecified injury to its eyes. The cat also was turned over to authorities.
“Anyone with information on the suspects responsible in these cases is asked to contact the police department,” Cpl. Mike Lewis said.
