If spectators are lucky, they’ll see a good fight.
Dozens of re-enactors will don woolen uniforms, shoulder muskets and head to Stonewall Manor to bring history alive next week, said Lauren Filliettaz, Nash County Historical Society’s coordinator for the house.
The house will be transformed into a Civil War encampment for a living history weekend Sept. 11 and 12 to show people what life would have been like in the 1860s, Filliettaz said.
“They will see first-hand what it would have been like for soldiers, how they lived, what they experienced, what they ate and who accompanied them in the encampments,” Filliettaz said.
The camp will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 12. Admission each day is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children 7 and older and free for age 6 and younger.
Re-enactors will hold musket and artillery demonstrations, drills, competitions and, possibly, a battle, said Tony King, first sergeant with the 13th N.C. Artillery Battalion, Company F, Latham’s Battery. The group will be joined by soldier and civilian re-enactors from other areas.
Between demonstrations, visitors can explore the camp and talk to the soldiers, who will remain in character.
The house will be open for tours, which will include a display of period weaponry, coins, paper money and flags. The Tar River Dulcimers also will play at selected times.
After the camp closes Saturday night, people can come to the grounds for a free concert by the Fox Hollow Boys Bluegrass Band beginning at 6 p.m., Filliettaz said.
