The Little Sisters of Hoboken have a problem.

Their cook, Sister Julia, accidentally served tainted vichyssoise to the order and killed 52 nuns. Those left have tried to raise the money to bury their sisters, but they have fallen short of their goal – four nuns short to be exact.

So with four nuns in the freezer and a plan brewing to raise extra money to bury them, what will happen next?

Expect a whole lot of “Nunsense” at the Nash Arts Center in Nashville, director Jim Lowdermilk said.

“They are having a fundraiser, which is kind of a musical review to try to raise more money so they can bury the rest of their poor dead sisters. It is all pretty tongue in cheek. It is a slightly irreverent look at nuns but very warm and tender,” Lowdermilk said.

The show will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17, 18, 24 and 25 and 2 p.m. Feb. 26.

Five women will bring to life the 1985 musical comedy by Dan Goggin, said Maureen Daly, who plays Sister Mary Regina.

Daly said she is having fun playing the mother superior, who is a control nut facing a newer generation of nuns who are less sheltered than she was as at their age.

“She was told when one of the nuns entered the convent that the incoming nun was streetwise. As far as the reverend mother knew, that meant she knew directions in town,” said Daly, cultural arts administrator for the Maria V. Howard Arts Center.
