Like many boys of my generation, I grew up reading science fiction by Robert A. Heinlein, Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clark. In particular, I liked that subgenre known as space opera – adventure set mainly in outer space, technological shoot-em-ups and rocket-powered thrillers.
