Nash-Rocky Mount Public School District was honored by the United Way Tar River Region at the Jan. 9 meeting of the Board of Education.

United Way Executive Director Ginny Mohrbutter and Jim Gray, president of N.C. Wesleyan College and the 2011-12 volunteer Campaign Chairman for United Way, praised Nash-Rocky Mount Public School System employees for their exemplary support of United Way and the 41 health and human services programs it represents.

Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools employees donated more than $78,000 to United Way and its agencies.

That represents more than a 30 percent increase over the 2010 campaign, which set a record at that time.

During the past six years, the Nash-Rocky Mount Public School System and its employees donated $380,903.63 in support of United Way to help those in need in our community.

Gray commended Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Jackson for his invaluable leadership and awarded a plaque as a token of appreciation.

The plaque reads “United Way Tar River Region salutes Dr. Anthony Jackson, Superintendent, Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools, for extraordinary leadership, 2011-2012 campaign. Thanks for giving 100%.”

Mohrbutter extended thanks to the numerous employees across the district for their support of United Way. This year, Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools had virtually 100 percent participation by employees, setting a record high.

Students across the district also participated in special events and coin drives.
