Local nonprofit organization beGlobal, founded by an Edgecombe County native in 2007, is offering high school students affordable test preparation courses to increase their ability to perform well on college entrance exams.
The college entrance exam course will include intensive instruction for the SAT and ACT, study guides and testing strategies, essay writing assistance and vocabulary development. Operating on a virtual cloud and in satellite locations in Edgecombe, Nash, Pitt and Wilson counties, these courses will be available to all even if the students do not have personal access to the Internet.
The facilitator for the course is Sheba Lowe of A+ Test Preparation whose services have received raving reviews from previous students. Former student Raymond Lee stated that without Lowe’s assistance, he would not have done nearly as well as he did. This student scored a 2200 on the SAT which included a 1540 out of 1600 in the Mathematics+Verbal scale. beGlobal’s goal with this program is to transport this type of quality service by ramping up the provision of its support and resources provided to the rural students.
Founder Quenesha McNair said she believes that providing students with studying techniques and tools will help them to develop healthy confidence, resulting in achievement. beGlobal’s test-prep sessions include four one-hour courses that will be rich with instruction for the SAT and ACT tests, study guides, testing strategies, practice exams, essay writing assistance and test vocabulary development.
The first session takes place Feb. 6-9. Each group of intensive courses cost $150 per student. Students who register before Monday pay only $100, receive a chance to win a free iPad 2 and receive free e-tutoring services with A+ Test Prep through June 30.
