Each year, Faith Christian School participates in student events and competitions sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International and other professional organizations. These events provide students with the opportunity to participate outside of the classroom in areas of interest that enrich their learning experience and challenge them to excel among their peers. Over the past few weeks, Faith Christian students have been very successful in representing the school in both academics and fine arts.
Students in fifth through eighth grades represented Faith Christian at the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee. For this competition, student participants were selected based upon their academic strength in language arts and competed against students at their grade level from other schools in our region. Several Faith Christian students earned placements with two qualifying for the National Spelling Bee. One of these students, Steven Bradley, traveled to Atlanta to participate in the National ACSI Spelling Bee.
Faith Christian students also participated in the ACSI Math Olympics. Students were chosen based upon their mathematical academic performance and attended the regional Math Olympics competition at Wayne Christian in Goldsboro. Several students earned placements with one student placing first.
This year, Faith Christian had several teams participate in the regional competition for Odyssey of the Mind including their first high school team. Odyssey of the Mind teams consist of five to seven students from kindergarten through high school who come together to solve a problem with ingenuity and creative ideas without teacher or parent collaboration. Two Faith Christian teams qualified for state competition.
The Faith Christian Fine Arts team continued to represent Faith Christian well in multiple areas as art students traveled to Henderson for the ACSI Art Festival where twenty eight students competed in many different media. Student art entries were judged by grade level and Faith Christian received 30 commendations with seven “Superior” ratings, twenty ratings of “Excellent” and three “Best in Show.”
The Music team visited North Raleigh Christian Academy where they participated in solo and piano competitions. Each participant was required to prepare a vocal solo or piano selection to be adjudicated by a judge. Faith Christian received 10 commendations in the piano competition with two receiving perfect scores and six students receiving superior ratings.
